FAQs

My strengths as a psychotheraputic counsellor are in providing conditions for
choice, learning and constructive growth.

What is Counselling?

Counselling, or therapy, is a confidential, non- judgemental space for you to talk through areas that are troubling you.
We often find it difficult to understand where a sense of emptiness or lack of purpose is coming from. Sometimes we are all too aware of where the pain is coming from but don’t know how to move forward. I believe that we all have it in ourselves to heal. Sometimes we just need a little help to work through some of our challenging thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

How does it work?

I offer a free initial consultation either over the telephone or online. It is vital that you feel that your counsellor is the right fit for you. This initial call not only helps me to understand the areas you wish to work through but allows you to get a sense of whether you would feel comfortable working with me. We will create a therapeutic plan together in our first session and we will regularly review your progress.

What does it cost?

Counselling sessions are charged at £45 per hour. I do offer reduced rates for those that are struggling financially. So please do reach out to discuss this further.

How long does it take?

Counselling sessions last for an hour.
I offer counselling either short term (6-8 sessions) or longer term. Sessions tend to be either weekly or fortnightly, whatever works for you.

Where do we work?

I work with clients over the telephone and online as well as face to face counselling from a therapy suite in Derwentside. I am also happy to provide ‘walk and talk’ therapy sessions in the peaceful environment of the Derwent Valley. Many of my clients prefer online work as they can receive counselling from the comfort of their home and fit it around potentially busy schedules.

Client Feedback:

“I’ve worked with Alice twice throughout this year. First when my mum passed away and most recently currently for help with for anxiety issues. She’s extremely easy to talk to, friendly and very professional. She really does listen to what you’re saying and helps you to break your problems down bit by bit. She is reassuring but not in a patronising way. Alice is someone who I’ve felt able to connect with and share things with that I have been unable to share before.
I highly recommend her as a therapist”

“Working with Alice has been amazing, she helped me through so much. Helping me see a better future after identifying trauma that I had been carrying round for years, which was impacting on my day-to-day life.  I can now see a more positive outlook and can step back and see my worth which I’ve struggled to see myself in the past. She’s nothing short of a miracle worker!!!”

“I just wanted to get in touch to say that I am doing well. I have managed to improve my life because of the work you did with me and I just wanted to say thank you.”

“I worked with Alice for a few months and in that time, she was very professional and understood my thought process and my way of thinking and it was all done with attention, Alice was great to work with, I would fully recommend her service”.

“I was really fortunate to have counselling sessions with Alice at a time when I was feeling really low.  I had already been to my GP and was considering medication, but after talking my feelings through with Alice, I was able to process my thoughts and feelings and find a different way of thinking.  I lost my dad to dementia and at the time of counselling, my mum had advanced Alzheimer’s Disease. Alice is a wonderful person and if anyone is struggling, I would highly recommend talking with Alice”
